Trumpet Concerto, op. 18 - Mvt 1 (Oskar Böhme) -Mathew Usher, trumpetConcerto for Horn and Orchestra (Ryan Duffy) -Ryan Duffy, horn
Matthew Usher is a Canadian trumpet performer located in London, Ontario. He enjoys performing a diverse range of musical genres and styles, ranging from Jazz to Classical.
He has played with many jazz, classical, and commercial groups in London, including his own Jazz 5tet, the Rob Larose Quintet, The Baddest Big Band, The London Jazz Orchestra, La Tribu, and the London Community Orchestra. Matthew has also played and performed with many Chamber and Large ensembles at Western University, including various chamber groups, the Wind Ensemble, the Salsa Band, and the Jazz Big Band. He is currently the principal trumpet player with the Western University Symphony Orchestra.
He has completed his Bachelor of Music with Honours in Education, and is currently pursuing his Masters Degree in Trumpet Performance at Western University.
Matthew is excited to be performing the first movement of the Böhme trumpet concerto and grateful for the opportunity to perform with the London Youth Symphony.
Ben Bolt-Martin is pleased and excited to join London Youth Symphony this evening as a guest conductor. Ben is past conductor of the Waterloo Chamber Players, Mississauga Youth Orchestra, Stratford Perth Youth Orchestra and Georgian Bay Symphony Youth Orchestra.
As a cellist, Ben Bolt-Martin has performed 20 seasons with the Stratford Festival of Canada, performing live and recording incidental music. He is a founding member of INNERchamber, an inventive and intimate chamber music series in Stratford. Ben has also featured as a soloist across Canada with a special interest in new music reflecting humanity's search for meaning. Ben was the featured performer on the Juno nominated recording Notes Towards.
As an arranger, Ben's projects have twice been nominated for Canadian Folk Music Awards and are regularly performed in orchestras across Canada.
Ben teaches chamber music at University of Waterloo.
